Article by Martin Hofschroer

Like numerous others, I have been told that too much caffeine is bad for you but it appears that stimulant also has health benefits.

Britain is clearly a nation of caffeine addicts having spent nearly £1 billion on coffee in 2010 and these people can rejoice in the knowledge that these regular cups can protect against various diseases and ailments.

Researchers from Sweden revealed that females who consumed more than five cups of coffee every day increased their chances of avoiding a particular aggressive strand of breast cancer.

A study from Greece found that elderly folk aged over sixty reduced their blood pressure after drinking just one cup of coffee per day and Bristol University discovered that a single cup of Joe enabled people to perform better in mental challenges.

It is advisable to avoid drinking coffee in the late afternoon or evening as this may result in sleeping problems as caffeine takes around eight hours to completely leave the body.

People who drink two cups of coffee each day can protect themselves against the risk of Alzheimer’s as this amount of caffeine consumption helped to prevent proteins building up which were linked to memory loss, according to the University of Florida.

Drinking a couple of cups half an hour before a workout will provide an energy boost which will enhance your workout, claims research in the International Journal of Sports Medicine.

There are also unfortunate dangers of drinking this amount of coffee as pregnant women may increase their chance of suffering a miscarriage so they are advised to reduce their intake during pregnancy.

The American medical journal Cancer revealed that a hat-trick of cups can help women decrease their chances of developing ovarian cancer by one fifth and women who had never had the contraceptive pill or HRT enjoyed greater rates of avoidance.

Serious coffee addicts who drink more than four and five cups a day are less likely to contract mouth cancers, claims the University of Utah , and significantly reduce their risk of liver damage, according to the National Cancer Centre in Tokyo.

Slimming supplements such as fat burners contain high levels of caffeine so regular users may also be able to enjoy the benefits associated with consuming constant cups of coffee.

Fat burners include lots of caffeine because it helps to suppress appetite and also provides an energy boost which encourages people to exercise for longer amounts of time which will aid their weight loss programmes.

Article by Teddy Lupain

The Sporades islands consist of four islands (Skopelos, Skiathos, Alonissos and Skyros) that are grouped together near the Euboean Coast of the Aegean Sea. In fact, there are a lot of small islands and rocky outcroppings around the four main islands which number more than 700, of which only 9 are inhabited.

The islands are amongst the greenest areas in the Med with nearly three quarters of their grounds being covered by the Mediterranean pine. Many of the beaches in the Sporades have been awarded the European Blue Flag, which confirm they are amongst the cleanest waters and beaches in Europe. It is also one of the best sailing areas in the Aegean, with many protected coves and many islets to get away from it all!

Undoubtedly one of the greenest of all the Greek Islands, holiday rental accommodation in Skopelos can be found in many peaceful rural locations surrounded by the fragrant, pine-clad countryside that gives this island such a fresh and verdant quality – holiday apartments and villas in Skopelos being highly sought after by those with a love for the great outdoors, particularly when it happens to be steeped in an atmosphere of calm and drenched in the glorious sunshine that is guaranteed virtually all year round in the Greek Islands.

Holiday accommodation in Skopelos might not appeal to you so much if you’d prefer the ambience of a lively, cosmopolitan, coastal resort packed with bars, nightclubs and shopping malls – apartment and villa rentals in Skopelos are more likely to put you in the midst of a traditional fishing village where antique shops and family-run tavernas are about as contemporary as it gets, although you can still find all the modern conveniences you need if you really can’t bear the thought of renting holiday accommodation in Skopelos without having the opportunity to access your emails!

Skopelos remains a corner of unspoilt Greece. You won’t find any English breakfasts or Irish bars here, but what you will find are friendly people, beautiful scenery, an unbelievably blue sea, easily accessible beaches, spectacular bays, good food and a pace of life which lends itself to a totally relaxing holiday.

Most of the beaches on Skopelos shelve gently into the sea, and are a mixture of sand, shingle and pebbles, with the sandiest beaches being at Limnonari and Agios Yiannis. Panormos beach has all white pebbles and is edged by tavernas from which to admire the beautiful bay. There are also many sandy coves around the island which are accessible only by boat, a perfect way to get a beach all to yourself.

What makes villas on the Greek islands and mainland different from more mainstream areas is that they are mostly one-off houses, often on the edge of small villages or even out in the wilds, rather than the large scale developments and complexes found elsewhere. The positive side of this is that it’s easy to find an interesting house that puts you in touch with local life and the whole Greek experience. The downside is that you probably won’t get the swimming pools, tennis courts and golf courses taken for granted in other big tourist destinations.

Greece is a country rich in fantastic islands and to select between them is definitely an almost not possible job but inquire a Greek which one they’d most prefer to go to and they often say Skopelos, and indeed you will see that Skopelos is where the Greeks themselves go on holiday. It is said that Skopelos is the greenest of all of the numerous islands of Greece and as soon as you have spent some time discovering this magical place it’s a difficult declare to deny. With five million pines, fifty thousand olive trees and only five thousand inhabitants it is a location exactly where the all-natural globe dominates and the warmth of the seashores is fringed from the cool of the forests. There are also numerous wide leaf trees to become seen with sweet chestnuts, walnuts and oak s amongst other people and also the island has been famous for the production of plums, which had been dried in the numerous plum ovens that produce among the numerous architectural functions noticed throughout Skopelos.

The two towns with the island, Skopelos and Glossa, can also be of great interest, their beautiful homes with tiled roofs, colorful shutters and balconies overhanging narrow alleyways winding up the hills they are situated on making a picturesque but real environment in which to possess a house. Skopelos city will be the money of the island and has all the contemporary solutions you can require but wandering up from the mulberry tree lined harbour front via the myriad of lanes, passing the numerous small churches, towards the medieval castle you could be in any of the past couple of hundreds of years.

It is a mostly unspoilt island which has prevented the ravages of mass tourism but has a good mix of foreign guests and residents with Greek visitors and also the nearby population. Many individuals choose to stay in Skopelos city but you will find numerous kalivis (or little farmhouses) within the countryside becoming re occupied and renovated and new build houses on sites with spectacular views and their own olive groves or orchards. You will find also numerous small villages which have property accessible and due to the topography with the island you can find a great selection of locations from chestnut filled valleys to coastal planes, from hill tops to seaside fronts and from towns to unspoilt countryside.

As a nation with a proud shipping and trading tradition, you’re usually on safe ground when you need to send a parcel to Greece – especially if you opt for the services of one of the world’s leading courier companies.

The country is very well served by international transport routes, with six airports of international standards with runways of more than 3km (1.85 miles) long. But when you talk about transport in Greece, the main mode which usually comes to mind is shipping.

There are nearly 900 bulk and freight vessels registered in the country – including a sizeable number which are British-owned – while a further 2,400 ply the world’s seas and oceans from Greek ports yet are registered under another country’s flag.

The principal ports of Piraeus and Thessaloniki (Salonika) are among the busiest in Europe, handling ships carrying all types of cargo daily.

But when a parcel really needs to get to Greece in a hurry, of course air is by far the quickest method. With excellent air and sea port facilities for handling incoming traffic, getting a parcel to any part of Greece can be done speedily and efficiently. This is despite the country having largely mountainous terrain away from its coasts, and it comprising about 2,000 islands.

Several of Greece’s islands have become home to sizeable communities of British expatriates, which has meant that the volume of parcel traffic being sent to the country has grown rapidly.

As a result, international parcel delivery companies have set up satellite operations to serve Greece and its many islands, so when you need to get a delivery to any destination in the country, there is plenty of help available.

As these businesses concentrate on carrying out such deliveries, they have vast resources, including planes and road vehicles, with which they can reach any part of Greece, getting any delivery efficiently and reliably to where it needs to go.

These delivery specialists are in keen competition with one another, which means that shopping around to get the best deal for a Greece courier service is a must. Websites now exist where the services of the leading operators can be quickly compared, so that the right one in terms of price and speed can quickly be found.

Just as getting to Greece has become easier as airlines offer services to meet a growing demand, so too has sending a parcel to the country. With a large number of routes available, and services designed to cater for all budgets, there is sure to be one which is just right for your needs.

			    About the Author

Spending a little time investigating the options available for parcel delivery to Greece can prove a wise investment, as a quick comparison will find the best worldwide courier for any job.

If you are planning a trip to Greece you will be welcomed by tasteful cuisine, unique architecture, some of the best beaches in the world, as well as some of the most famous wines. The view of the country is extraordinary anywhere you go and the culture is full of life, love, and excitement.

You might become overwhelmed trying to take in everything that Greece has to offer. For your visit you should decide what places are of the most importance for you to visit before you arrive. You want to be able to relax and enjoy your vacation and not spend every minute running from sight to sight.

The dress code in Greece is extremely casual. Men wear shorts and women sundresses to most dinners. If you want to be a bit more formal you can wear slacks and cocktail dresses to dine out but this would be as formal as expected of you in even the finest restaurants.

You will be amazed by the flavors offered in the cuisine, the portions are larger than you might expect so be sure to leave room for the tasty deserts. The menus consist of a variety of seafood, grilled meats and fresh vegetables. There are some specialty dishes that are native to Greece that are a must try.

The area boats several world famous wineries where they offer tours and give you the chance to taste the exquisite wines that are created there. Anyone who appreciates wine will love the tours of the wineries in Greece.

A taxi cab is the most common method for tourists to travel around Greece. You can have up to 4 passengers in a cab at once but all of your luggage must be able to fit in the trunk. If you have brought large bags or several of them you might need to hire a second taxi just for your bags. When you call for a taxi they arrive within minutes so be sure to be at your pickup location.

Having a map of Greece will be extremely helpful for finding your way around. Even if you plan to take a taxi everywhere you go you should know the area to be able to spend more time than necessary traveling from one sight to the next. The hotel will be able to provide you with maps while you are there and if you prefer to have one prior to your visit your travel agent can assist.

There is something for everyone to do in Greece. If you love to eat, taste wines, view beautiful catholic churches or unique architecture, gamble, or even just play on the beach you will find it in Greece. If you are looking for a way to unwind after a big outing then you might enjoy one of the fabulous golf courses or even a spa offering first class treatments.

Finding someone who speaks your language is easy in Greece. The police officers wear the flags of the countries that they speak their language. So when you need help finding your way to one of the beautiful beaches or just the directions back to your hotel look for your flag on the police officers chest.

Article by Tony Maniscalco

1. Sunglasses

As Louis de Bernières pointed out in Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, the brightness of the light in Greece can be quite overwhelming for the first time visitor. Whether it’s the white-washed walls of the tavernas and villages, the hazy greens and browns of the fields or the striking blue of the sea that causes it, you’ll need something between the sun’s rays and your adjusting eyes! That’s not to say that walking in Greece is an uncomfortable experience, but there’s a reason why such a relaxed atmosphere descends upon the country when the sun is high in the sky. A good pair of sunglasses will help you drink in the amazing beauty of your surroundings without overloading your senses.

2. Fine Footwear

As you’re hiking in Greece it’s a given that you’d take a strong pair of walking shoes. With some sturdy footwear you’ll be able to roam over hot sands, pebbled stone and winding paths without impediment. But here’s an interesting question… what will you do as the sun begins to set? With such beautifully warm Mediterranean evenings to enjoy, it’s a good idea to bring some soft, open sandals that will let your feet breathe in the cool, soothing air. Remember, if your feet feel hot, you’ll feel hot and if they feel relaxed and free, so, in turn, will you. There’s no better way to spend an evening.

3. Phrase Book

Anyone who wants to walk in Greece and see the real, local country should have at least a few greetings stitched into their mind. With a simple ‘Yiá sas’ (‘Hello’) and a ‘Hérome yia tin gnorimía’ (‘pleased to meet you’), you’ll give an open impression of yourself to the people you meet on your travels, and will soon experience some of the warmest hospitality in the world. It’s surprising just how far you can get with even a basic phrase book, and there are few things quite as fun as exchanging compliments with a curious stranger, particularly if neither of you speak the other’s language.

4. Swimming Costume

One of the great virtues of walking in Greece, particularly in the warmer months, is the many attractive coastal routes that you can follow. The heat of the day need never inconvenience you as the cool waters of the Mediterranean are often no more than a stone’s throw away. So warm are the sea breezes that a towel may not even be a necessity. Come to think of it, many of the routes are so secluded and peaceful that the swimming costume may not be a necessity either!

5. Compilation of Greek Myths

Hiking in Greece is not only a feast for the senses, but a chance to explore the birthplace of classical literature. So many evocative myths and tales have come from Greece and her islands that you’re spoiled for choice at every turn. Whether this is at the remains of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi or by hoping to stumble upon Jason’s Golden Fleece, Aphrodite’s Girdle, or Hermes’ Winged Boots is up to you. However, a ball of twine is a wise investment if you plan to search for the Minotaur’s Labyrinth on Crete, as finding your way into its lair is famously easier than finding your way out.

6. A Guide Book

The wise old Greek leaders said that when walking in Greece, all paths go from the back of one church to the back of another church. Given the ubiquity of churches and chapels this isn’t a bad maxim to follow. However, in reality hiking in Greece isn’t that simple and paths can be extremely difficult to find, unless they are motorways like the Samaria Gorge on Crete. For this reason investing in a good map or guide book is a wise choice and going with a company that has already worked out the routes in advance definitely pays dividends.

You will not be able to resist the charm and beauty of Greece and once you fall under her spell – you will be smitten forever.
